Wednesday, February 28, 2007It's a stage...
She's changed so much. Now that I've stopped doing the monthly updates I need something to remind me later of all the "new" things
Labels: Althea Raye Wednesday, February 21, 2007Not you just everyone elseEver have those days where you just hate every body? Not you guys of course, just everybody ELSE in the WHOLE WORLD! Cause is it me or are most people just idiots? I'm thinkin it's NOT ME! Just sayin. Labels: It's all about me Tuesday, February 20, 20073 under 2Monday I had off from work. Thank you President's Day. My friend Jaime had off as well so we decided since his wife, and my husband both had to work that we'd have a play date day for the girls. His two - 19 mo & 4mo Mine - 16 mo I decided that I'd come to him cause it's much easier for me to get out of the house with one than for him with two. *whispers: especially without his wife to help him* Allie was all excited for her play date. I showed her "G"'s picture (19 mo) and we practised saying her name all morning. When we got there they were both extremely excited to see each other. First thing they did was kiss each other.....it was adorable. The girls started playing, and because obviously neither mine or his brain cells were working that day we decided we were going to be ambitious and take all three children (that would be two adults, and three children under two years old) to Buy Buy Baby to go and buy a double stroller for him. Are we totally out of our minds? YES! The first obstacle was how we get them to the car? We were able to strap all three car seats into the back seat of his wife's car. There was only two of us, and with all the ice surrounding the car we had to carry them all to the car which probably was pretty funny to watch from say across the street. LOL As soon as we got them all strapped in.......we realized we forgot a sippy cup (yea, that would be ME) so he runs back in & comes back out empty handed. I say...ummm sippy? His reply: Oh sh*t. BACK in again, grab it and go. (See it's not just mommy brain...it's PARENT BRAIN!) Off we go to the store. Down goes the DVD screen. On goes Elmo's World! I never saw Allie's face light up so bright. She pointed at the screen with this big smile and said: MELMO!!!!!!! MAAAA?!?! *point* MELMO!!!!! As if to say - look!! IN.THE. CAR. Why doesn't OUR car do that??!? And off we were, feeling pretty proud of ourselves that we were out of the house. Just then the little one starts crying. *reach back - insert binkie* See, we're fine! We get to the store and we grab some carriages and in we go. We get situated, or try to. Jaime's figuring out the best way to situate. Little one in the back, big one in the front? Little one in the front big one in the back? Yup! That's the one! We're strolling. We make it about 4 or 5 isles, and we start the first temper tantrum. I'm looking at seats, hear the noise, and cringe. It could have been either one.....but it was his! WHHSHHWWW Thank goodness. She wants to run around the store instead of sit in the seat. I offer her snacks, but nope. That always works for Allie. She will do anything you say if you just hand her a cup of Gerber cheese crackers. The sound elevates, he lets her out.....in a FLASH she's gone! He's running after her. The baby is lookin around thinkin....wow look at all the lights. Allie is munchin on those cheese crackers, and only makes a sound when she can't shove them in her mouth quick enough. I think to myself: Thank the gods for Gerber cheese crackers! He's back, and puts "G" back into the seat. MELTDOWN. Time to go! Everybody back in the car! Estimated time in the store: 3.4 minutes. On the way home they all fall asleep. ALL THREE CHILDREN FALL ASLEEP AT THE SAME TIME. Jaime explains that this never happens even when they are home. I decide we should never leave the car again, and also that we need ice cream. So we stop at the grocery store and he QUIETLY gets out and gets some Ben and Jerry's Phish Food, and Brownie Madness. We go back to his house. I'm totally against leaving the car while they are still asleep but we get to the house. He's able to transfer his two into the house and they stay asleep. I know there is no way that is happening with Allie. I'm right. Allie hits the cold air and the eyes open wide. So fine, mine didn't sleep hardly at all....but yours had a temper tantrum so *sticks tongue out* We get back in side and eat ice cream. It's MUCH better at the house. We never should have left the house. We all had a great time, but I think I may need to buy a portable DVD player....and an Elmo's World DVD. Because this morning on the way to work Allie pointed at the empty ceiling of my truck and said: Melmo??? Labels: A Day in the Life, Althea Raye Friday, February 16, 2007When it's ok to get Valentine's Day flowers on the 16thWhen your parents are the florist that it came from and they know that your not at work on the 14th, and then they call you on the 15th and say....ummmm yea....I've had flowers for you since yesterday but I don't have time to deliver them today so you have to wait till tomorrow. *shrug* Whaddya gonna do. They are beautiful though.....purple roses with white tulips (I love tulips) with Wax Flower filler. Not a piece of baby's breath to be found...PERFECT! Thank you Baby!! *SMILE* p.s. My husband was wayyyy to nice to me for Valentine's Day this year. I got jewelry AND flowers. I got him a card (and one from Allie too), and a less than totally cooked cheesecake. *cringe* Labels: Holidays Thursday, February 15, 2007Made from the heart....for the tummyYou know what yesterday was???? A SNOW DAY!!!! YAY! Allie and me got to stay home all day and play. We couldn't really go out side and play in the snow cause it was raining ice, and then really really windy. But who cares, we got to stay home. Mike had to go to work. =o( and it was Valentine's Day too. Which sucked, cause a family snow day/valentine's day would have been so much cooler. So Allie made her daddy a heart shaped Valentine (with a little help from Mommy) to show how much she missed him, and I made him a cheesecake with chocolate gram cracker crust and a raspberry sauce heart. It didn't come out the best, cause I prolly didn't cook it long enough, or something. It wasn't my recipe, I grabbed it off line cause I only had two packages of Cream Cheese, and my recipe calls for three. It was like too creamy or something. =( It seems like every time I go to make Mike something special to eat it gets messed up. Last time, it was his birthday. I made his favorite, Lasagna. So there I am making the meat sauce. Home made with meatballs and sausage, and it's just about done and I go to add some Oregano. Cause you should add that at the end, cause cooking oregano for too long makes it bitter. And I pick up the jar from my spice rack and DUMP in CINNAMON!!! And when I say dump, I mean DUMP! Cause for some reason which is both to long and dumb to include in this post I have cinnamon in a jar with BIG holes in it. I try desperately to dig out the cinnamon with the spoon, but alas....the sauce was ruined. The lasagna made it cause I had the sauce in there already but all that meat..... Anyway, this pie was no different. Actually if you look at the picture closely, you can even see the center doesn't look totally done. Although I must say that this morning it was much better. Like it set over night.....ummm....not that I had any this morning for breakfast or anything...... *cringe* Labels: Holidays Tuesday, February 13, 2007Take a HintMy aunt recently said to me: Ya know, if you think that we read your blog to hear you ramble on about bla bla bla, your wrong. WE WANT PICTURES!!! OF THE CHILD! So here! Here are some pictures of Allie that my MIL took while at a family party last weekend. It was a 60's theme, so we were all hippie'd out! Forced to take a picture with Mommy. (and of course The Coat) Happy to be on Daddy's shoulders.![]() A little blurry, but check out all that hair all of a sudden! So there. No blabbing from me. Just cute pictures of the child. HAPPY? Labels: Althea Raye, Picture Perfect Friday, February 09, 2007"C" is for.....Cookie. That's good enough for me. Cookie cookie cookie starts with "C": We'll start with Cookie because "C" will always first and foremost be for Cookie! Am I right? Anyway, besides being one of the most addicting songs in the world, "C" is for Cookie is also one of the songs that kicks off my brandie new "Road Trip CD" made for me by my good friend Cathy. When she first told me that she was gonna give me a CD to help with Allie's new Car Tantrums, I was all like "BAH, that aint gonna work for me". But she brought it anyway, with a note on it that said: Try it, throw it out, run over it with the car, I don't care! Well, after a couple of days of Allie whining EVERY.DAMN.DAY. I decided it was worth a try! And I must say, it worked! Of course it wasn't totally magic and she didn't like every song, but it helped. Then I thought, well Cathy made this CD for her daughter. Meaning it has the songs on their that SHE liked. So now I'm totally motivated this weekend to make the CD to end all CD's that is dedicated to ALTHEA and her car issues!!! Coat: In addition to car issues my daughter also has coat issues all of a sudden. Her brown Old Navy coat that I got for $25, because it was soft, warm, and lightweight is now her BFF, or at the very least a security blanket. She will NOT let you take it off. Once you DO manage to get it off of her, after the smoke clears from the humongous tantrum, she wants to walk around holding it. She holds in around her neck like a cape, or with her one arm through one of the arm holes. And when she has the coat, she walks with this bit of swagger. The shoulders swing side to side, and she has the little smirk, like - I have the coaaat I have the coooaaat! naa naa na naaaaa na!!! She a smart little thing too, cause she KNOWS all the places that I try to hide it. In the closet. Under my clothes on my hope chest in my room. Under my coat on the dining room table. Under the couch cushions. And she methodically will go from one place to another through the house screaming until she finds it. And when she does? It's back to the swagger, and the smirk..... Needless to say, she's had breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner with THE Coat at least once each in the past week.Cold: Is it freakin cold by you? Cause it's like negative 5 bizillion degrees here in Jersey (Joisey), and I'm gettin sick and tired of the dryness. I wake up every morning with a dry scratchy throat from how damn cold and dry it is in my house. It's horrible. I think I need a humidifier in MY room too, and my skin??? MY GOD! Cake: I made this cake for the Superbowl. It was awesome. Looked just like a football field. With end-zones decorated with COLTS and BEARS in their colors. A big SUPERBOWL XLI in the middle. Very cool. I found it Monday morning, in the fridge still. I NEVER EVEN TOOK IT OUT! So many people brought stuff that I forgot all about it. So now I have this entire cake sitting in my fridge! Well, it's not really an ENTIRE cake anymore.... I've been slowly pickin at it since Monday. DAMN YOU SUPERBOWL!!!!! Checkin it out: It's Friday, so go check out Dad said Mom said and tell Jill she's perfectly normal. __________________ This post was brought to you by the letter "C", and the number 69 DUDE!!!!! Labels: Althea Raye, It's all about me Wednesday, February 07, 2007I missed the Superbowland I missed the commercials! Mike and I had a pretty big party for the Superbowl this year. I think it's easier when one person out of the couple doesn't like football. At least when your having a party. Like my friend Bean. She always comes to my Superbowl parties and hangs out in the kitchen being the entertainer and dealing with the food. She likes food way more than she likes football, so that's fine with her. Most of the time I sit my ass on the couch and let her deal with it (we're close like that) but this year there were just too many people to just make her do all the work. And Mike knows that I like football as much as he does, so he feels bad that I'm doing the work, so he helps me. And so neither of us watched hardly any of the game. And I think it was a good game too! Not a total blow out like normal. Seriously, I wish I DVR'd it, so that on Monday night we could have sit down and watch the whole thing again. And by again, I mean for the first time. I did get to see all my friends, so it's kinda worth it. And there was some kiddies there, so Allie had a ball!! She was runnin all over the place playing with everyone, it was cute. My friend Cathy took some pictures (cause Allie's bad bad mommy hasn't taken pictures of her in like 2 months!!) and there was only 1 where Allie's eyes were open, kinda. She has this new thing that she does, when she smiles she crunches up her whole face. Maybe the lack of pictures for the last two months isn't a bad thing! LOL Kidding! Kidding! ![]() Complete with her "wow you people are old" t-shirt. Seriously what is that face? So what did you guys do for the Superbowl? Was there any commercials that were SO good that I should go search them out on YouTube? -------------------------------------- Labels: Holidays Friday, February 02, 2007Ewwww, Culture?"My father wants to treat us to a play and dinner in NYC. He decided that we need to get us-selves some culture" "Ewwww, a play? I don't want any culture!" "Too bad. Your getting culture, and we're getting a night in NYC and dinner without child. It's an indie play, maybe you'll be shocked and like it!" *sigh* "mmmmm, maybe" "Either way, your going to GO AND SMILE AND HAVE FUN OR ELSE!" ------------------------------------------ BTW, go check out Dad said Mom said this week. Jenn and John and talkin FOOTBALL! Labels: A Day in the Life Thursday, February 01, 2007Toddler Road RageMy commute is wearing on my last nerve. (who knew I had one left) On most days it's one hour (or more) of pure hell. A half hour before 8 o clock in the morning, and 45 minutes at 5:30pm after a grueling 8 hour day of bullshit at work. Lots of people commute to work, some of which spend way more than 1hr 15min in the car, why are you so special to be able to complain about it? Well, it used to be ok. I'd talk to Allie or listen to music and the drive would go by uneventful. In fact the drive was nice. It would give me time to be awake enough to work, or wound down enough by the time I got home. Not anymore. Althea is going through a stage (oh please tell me it's a stage) where she doesn't like driving in the car anymore. I'm assuming it's due to her new found energy of being a toddler and being able to RUN, CLIMB, and JUMP that being strapped into a car seat for 30 - 45 minutes at a clip is just unacceptable to her. So she has a tantrum while I'm putting her in the seat - stiff as a board. Once I get her in the seat she yells, whines, and throws her toys almost the entire way there. The only way I can get her to calm down most of the time is if I happen to be lucky enough to drive by a truck (If it's a bright color? BONUS) or a bus. Not that it lasts that long, because the second it passes her view she repeats "MOE-AH" (more) 5 times, and if I can not produce a truck or bus in that time frame, back to yelling! It's exhausting. And the buses and trucks on my route to and from work are starting to get weirded out by me I think. It's the worst on my way home. I just finish a long day at work and go and pick Allie up and I have to struggle to put her in the car, listen to her yell and tantrum for 45 minutes on the way home, then get home and be all: *SMILE* HI BABE! How was your day? What do you want for dinner?! When I want to be like: *UGH* take this child and leave me alone, for at least an hour!!! Problem is, I don't have an hour. I get home at 6, and Allie goes to bed around 8. Those 2 hours are precious family time, and I hate the fact that when I get home I want to hide in a dark closet during the first one. Plus, it's obviously not Mike's fault that Allie is driving me crazy, so he doesn't deserve that type of greeting. Doncha think that they should have had those transporter things from StarTrek invented by now? I mean really it's 2007!!!! --------------------- p.s. don't get me wrong, it's not like Mike walks in the door and says - Where's my dinner Bitch!?! In fact, he's very good at noticing when I'm burnt out and taking Allie out of my hair for a bit while I drown myself in cooking dinner....or even better, when he says: Hey, let's ORDER CHINESE!!
