Wednesday, November 21, 2007Assvice about having twoI've been home with both of them for 2 months now, and the key to dealing with it is to try and be lax about it. If the house is a mess, so what. If they watch a little too much TV, so what. If the baby is sleeping in bed with you so that you can catch up on a little sleep, so what. (but don’t go overboard on that.) Try to keep a slight schedule, and attempt to put the baby down for a nap at the same time as the toddler. And whether or not it works at fist just try it every day and eventually you will get them to nap together and THAT is the most important part to keeping sanity. OH and while I'm giving ASSVICE about having both of them: While you will try and give the older one as much attention as possible to keep them from feeling replaced, don't go overboard with it or they will start to get spoiled and think that they are in charge. Already my daughter orders my husband to “put Luke down! and *arms reaching* Up please!” or tells my mother “give Luke to Mommy!!” You don’t want them to feel less important than the baby, but you don’t want them to feel more important either. Cause although the baby dosen’t mind right now, very soon that baby WILL understand and they WILL want equal time, and it wont be easy to just switch gears once that happens. As far as downtime to myself………..hahahahahaha next question. No but seriously especially if your breastfeeding, there is no such thing as mom time for the first 6 weeks. Funny enough when Allie is napping or in daycare 2 days a week and I only have Luke it feels like downtime. Cause you don’t realize how easy a newborn is till you have a toddler. LOL He’s cake!!! When it’s just me and him I feel like I’ve got it easy! LOL Now that we hit the two month mark it’s getting easier. We got Luke taking a bottle once a day before bed so that Mike can give the last feeding and I can go to sleep early. And now that he’s ok with getting a bottle occasionally I can go out to dinner or have a couple of drinks and leave him with a bottle. THAT was the key to my freedom. I don’t get to do it often, but I can if I want to. For instance I will be bringing along the bottles on Thanksgiving so I can toss back a few with the family and have some fun. I just hope Luke starts sleeping through the night soon, cause THAT! That will make me feel back to normal (as normal as possible anyway) again. We're getting closer too. I've switched him to his crib at night and it seems to be working. Last night he went 5 hours between feedings and actually slept for four straight hours!! Which is a big deal! And it's slowly getting more and more. So, keep your fingers crossed for me that continues. Happy Thanksgiving! Labels: It's all about me, learnin' every day, Oh baby Wednesday, November 07, 2007My quest for sleep....has screwed with Luke's eating schedule, and has resulted in pretty much everyone in the house getting less sleep, including me. You see, I've become pretty accustomed to the laying down while nursing position at night. It's very comfortable, and seems so natural. It's sooo comfortable however, that I actually fall asleep while nursing. So in my quest for sleep this seems perfect...at first...cause I can just go right back to sleep! Except...the nights sometimes go like this. 10ish is the last feeding of the night, and he goes in the cradle. 1 am rolls around, and he's ready for feeding #1. Half asleep, I grab him and lay him down next to me in bed. He starts eating, I fall asleep, then he falls asleep. 2:30 am comes and I realize I fell asleep and he's in the bed. I try and put him in his cradle, he wakes up realizes he only got half a feeding and is hungry. Back in bed, and back to sleep. before you know it, it's 4am! Time for feeding #2! ...and so on.... You seeing a pattern here? I'm turning into an all night buffet!! So basically, it's nice to be able to go right back to sleep, but I end up waking up twice as often. So that's IT! I'm getting that kid nice and full at every feeding and getting him back in the cradle....or crib even! Plus....I'm sure my sex life would appreciate it too.
